I slid my finger up against the screen of my phone,
scrolling through the news feed when a familiar voice drifted from the speaker,
instantly I was transported to another room where I stood with hands raised as the
thirst of my soul was quenched. I wiped tears from my closed eyes and smiled as
surely as I did almost five years ago.
From a scroll, my ears lead me to a setting I hadn’t
been to in years. As the sweet aroma of presence poured from my heart, I was
right back there, standing in the church that was now closed.
It was a loving reminder about the power of a post and the
emotions they can evoke.
I was thankful for the moment, for the post, for the memories forever held inside, for the journey
back in time and the friends I call mine. The news feed can be a distraction,
good and bad. It brings opportunities for connection and disconnection. It can
be a place that makes some feel seen, and others feel lonely.
You never know what someone else may need, so in reflection, I ask,
Is it love or hate that I bring to the feed?
Do I celebrate their good news or judge the details in the photos?
Am I living my best life if I compare it against theirs?
Do I keep it real while I decide if others are fake?
Do I want prayers for my hard times and not to gossip about theirs?
Am I rolling my eyes or walking in someone else’s shoes?
Can I be bold enough to say, “Hey, I struggle too?”
We are human. Messy. Beautiful. A roller coaster of emotions. Connected by breath. On any given day, anyone one of us is sure to seem confused.
I know I don’t always listen. What about you?
